Solana Beach Library 100th Anniversary Event

The Solana Beach Library will be celebrating its 100th anniversary this year on Tuesday, June 10, 2025. Join us in celebrating 100 years of stories, crafts, and community.
From children’s story time sessions to exercise classes and crafternoons, Solana Beach Library is known for hosting a wide array of events year-round to appeal to the Solana Beach community.
In June 1925, Ira Earl Conner opened the first Solana Beach library in his grocery store about 100 feet south of Plaza St. on Highway 101. The library was on the move throughout Solana Beach for nearly 40 years in a variety of locations including the home of Mrs. Joseph C. Scialdo at the north end of Solana Beach in August 1952, where it remained for almost a year.
Friends of the Solana Beach library formed in March of 1983 with a goal of expanding the library and finding a new location. In October 1983 the library opened its doors at a new location at Lomas Santa Fe Shopping center, Garden Section, Plaza of the Four Flags. The Solana Beach Library remained there until its doors opened on July 5, 2001 at its current location, 157 Stevens Ave, as a shared-use library between the San Diego County Library and the San Dieguito Union High School District.
The complete history of the Solana Beach Library is available on the Friends of Solana Beach Library website.
“It is a pleasure to be a part of the Solana Beach Community,” said Kathleen Sullivan-Long, Branch Manager Solana Beach Library. “The library is at the center of Solana Beach both literally and figuratively. The staff and I strive to cultivate a love of learning in individuals of all ages in the community through programming, book recommendations, and every conversation we have with library visitors.”
“The Solana Beach Library is a community treasure for all,” stated Jennifer Eveleth President, Friends of Solana Beach Library. “The literary selections and diverse programs offer something for everyone and promote lifelong learning .”
Amongst the June 10 festivities, Solana Beach Library plans musical acts, craft stations, food, and of course books. In order to keep waste to a minimum for the event, we kindly ask that guests bring their own water bottles.
Friends of Solana Beach Library hope you join us in honoring our past and looking forward to our future. In addition to the 100th Anniversary celebration on June 10 we will be hosting a series of special events throughout the year, from historical exhibits to author talks and more. Friends of Solana Beach Library thanks the community that has supported us for the past 100 years. See you at the library.
