Tot Lot Improvement Project
The City of Solana Beach has begun the process of rejuvenating the playgrounds at La Colonia Park and Fletcher Cove Beach Park! Improvements include new play equipment, play surfacing, and associated landscape areas and furnishings. The City is committed to promoting inclusive play opportunities and incorporating public feedback into the designs. Questionnaires and community workshops will be used to better understand the needs and desires of playground visitors. This website is the best way for you to stay up to date on the project’s progress and learn about opportunities for community engagement. Stay connected to find out how you can get involved!
Fletcher Cove Tot Lot is Now Open!
Thank you to each and every one of you who joined us in celebrating the grand re-opening of the Fletcher Cove Tot Lot. It was an incredible day filled with joy, laughter, and a true sense of community spirit. We are thrilled to announce that the playground and basketball court are now officially open to the public.
We hope this revitalized space will serve as a hub of fun and enjoyment for families, friends, and neighbors alike. This space belongs to all of us, and we encourage you to go check it out and enjoy it!
Thank you to the VDLA Landscape Architects, the R.E. Schultz Construction team, Coast Recreation, UC San Diego Library, and the local community for your involvement and dedication!
Exciting New Features!
Are you ready to play? The new playground includes swings, an ADA accessible net structure, a slide, monkey bars, and a “boogie board” to practice your skills before hitting the surf. There is also an area specially designed for our younger visitors that focuses on aspects of early childhood development by building both fine and gross motor skills, encouraging imaginative social play, expanding language, and cognitive skills.
This playground is making a splash in the history of Solana Beach! VDLA’s licensed drone pilots captured a photo from the same vantage point as one taken by Ed Fletcher 100 years ago. Take a look into the past as you view the side by side comparison to see the extent that Solana Beach has changed between 1923 and 2023!
Make sure you check out the stunning whale design on the rubber surface as you join the fun!
Fletcher Cove Tot Lot Grand Opening
The City is excited to invite you to the grand unveiling of the highly anticipated new and improved Fletcher Cove Park Playground! Join us Wednesday, June 28th, at 4:00 PM for fun, music, refreshments, and more as we celebrate the completion of the new Playground.
We know the community has been eagerly awaiting the chance to explore and try out the new equipment and embrace those summer vibes. Bring your friends, neighbors, and, of course, your children as we celebrate this special occasion with a festive ribbon-cutting ceremony. Enjoy live music and dance with the amazingly fun Hullabaloo Band, sit down for free face painting, and taste some delicious treats!
This is a special time for the community to come together, celebrate the completion of the playground, and kick off the summer season in style!
Thanks to the community for providing important feedback in designing this project. The improvements will include new play equipment that will have inclusive play opportunities, new play surfacing, and associated landscape areas and furnishings.
The City of Solana Beach has begun the community engagement process and held its first community workshop on Wednesday, September 1st. This virtual workshop presented the findings of the playground surveys that were conducted in July, discussed project considerations that will inform the design, established preference on placement of the park equipment and received additional public comments and input.
