World Kindness Day Blood Drive
As an official partner of City of Kindness, Solana Beach is proud to celebrate World Kindness Day held annually on November 13th, a day dedicated to spreading compassion and positive actions throughout our community and beyond.
The purpose of World Kindness Day as defined by the World Kindness Movement, is “to highlight good deeds in the community, focusing on the positive power and the common thread of kindness that binds us.” Kindness has a ripple effect, where even the smallest act can inspire others to pay it forward, creating waves of goodwill that uplift everyone.
World Kindness Day Blood Drive:
As part of this effort the City has once again partnered with the San Diego Blood Bank for the second annual World Kindness Day Blood Drive. So if you are looking for a way to make a difference on this special day, this is it!
The San Diego Blood Bank bus will be parked right in the Solana Beach City Hall parking lot (635 S Highway 101) on Thursday, November 13th, from 11:30 AM to 5:00 PM, giving you the chance to perform a silent act of kindness by donating blood. Just come by, roll up your sleeve, and help save lives!
November is also National Diabetes Awareness Month, so everyone who donates at this drive will receive a free AIC test when they donate.
As a special thank-you, donors will receive a limited-edition Padres t-shirt and a kindness goodie bag. The Padres shirt was such a hit that it sold out this summer, but the San Diego Blood Bank brought it back especially for this drive. Appointments are encouraged to ensure you have time to donate, but walk-ins are also welcome.
Saving lives is always in season! Schedule your appointment today and make a huge impact with a simple, generous act.

General Requirements For Blood Donation
Basic Requirements
We know that you would not donate unless you think your blood is safe. However, for us to assess all risks that may affect you or a patient receiving a transfusion, it is essential that you answer each questions completely and accurately. If you do not understand a question, ask the blood center staff. All information you provide is confidential.
To determine if you are eligible to donate we will:
- Ask about your health and travel
- Ask about medicines you are taking or have taken
- Ask about your risk for infections that can be transmitted by blood—especially AIDS and viral hepatitis
- Take your blood pressure, temperature and pulse
- Take a blood sample to be sure your blood count is acceptable
All donors should be in good health on the day of donation. To be eligible, you must:
- Be at least 17 years old
- Weigh at least 110 lbs
- Be free of major cold or flu-like symptoms
- Have a photo ID with birthdate
- Not have a history of Hepatitis B or Hepatitis C at any age
- Not have had any risk factors/behaviors associated with HIV/AIDS
A person should be in good health and feeling well on the day of donation, free of open skin lesions/wounds and infectious diseases, including flu and common cold. Prior to each donation, you will be given a mini-physical and medical interview. A prospective donor may be deferred at any point during the collection and testing process. After the deferral period ends, a donor can return to the San Diego Blood Bank donation center to be reevaluated and resume donation if all donor eligibility requirements are met.
If you have any questions regarding eligibility requirements for blood donation please call (619) 400-8251.
