23rd Annual Creek to Bay Cleanup

Are you ready to make a difference in your community and protect our planet? Join I Love A Clean San Diego for the Creek to Bay Cleanup, the largest Earth Week event in San Diego County! This family-friendly initiative invites volunteers of all ages to come together and tackle coastal pollution on Saturday, April 26, 2025.

Event Overview: Founded in 2002 by I Love A Clean San Diego, the Creek to Bay Cleanup has become a hallmark event in the county's environmental calendar. Alongside Coastal Cleanup Day, it stands as one of the largest single-day environmental action events in San Diego County. This year, we aim to make an even bigger impact, with thousands of volunteers expected to participate.

Getting Involved:  Did you know that 80% of all coastal pollution begins inland? By joining the Creek to Bay Cleanup, you're not just picking up trash—you're defending our waterways from litter and safeguarding the health of our oceans. Every piece of trash removed from our beaches and water sources makes a difference in preserving our marine ecosystems. Participation in the Creek to Bay Cleanup is easy and rewarding. Register in advance and select your location. Volunteers can choose from around 100 sites across San Diego County, including one right here in Solana Beach. Register here.

What to expect: A site captain will be ready to check you in on site. After a short orientation and safety talk you will be sent off to remove litter around the area! The site captain(s) will be in charge of sorting and disposing of the collected litter and after the cleanup you can request community service verification in your Community Hub dashboard.

Supplies: Be sure to wear comfortable clothes, closed-toed shoes, some form of sun protection (sunscreen or a hat) and bring a water bottle or two! Help make this cleanup as Earth-friendly as possible by bringing sustainable supplies from home - check out our Zero Waste Supply Guide. The site captain(s) will be providing trash bags and disposable gloves if you do not have your own supplies! Please not that the event will happen rain or shine! If it is raining on cleanup day, we recommend rain boots, a raincoat and a towel to dry off afterwards.

Waivers: This event requires a signed release-of-liability waiver for all volunteers, and anyone under 18 needs a waiver signed by a guardian. Please download and print the waiver below, sign, and bring with you to this cleanup. No printer? No problem! We will have waivers at check-in for volunteers. If you are under 18 please have your guardian check-in with us at the cleanup to sign-off on your participation.

Keeping Solana Beach Clean and Green with new Fletcher Cove Beach Clean-up Station!

Plastic pollution is a major contributor to biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation. It can cause injury, starvation, and death for marine life, and even pose risks to human health through bioaccumulation. Unfortunately, it often begins with something as simple as litter left behind during a day at the beach.

To help address this issue, the City of Solana Beach has partnered with Relic Sustainability and EDCO to launch a new Beach Cleanup Station at Fletcher Cove. Inspired by the DMVA Shoresaver Program, the station will be located near the trash cans and equipped with six reusable baskets for beachgoers to use during their visit. The process is simple: grab a basket on your way in, collect any litter you see, empty the contents in a trash bin when you leave, and return the basket to the post.

Join us for the official launch of the new Beach Cleanup Station at Fletcher Cove on Saturday, April 26th right after the Love a Clean San Diego Annual Creek to Bay Cleanup. We invite community members to join us for this special ribbon cutting event and take part in the collective effort to protect our coastline.

Can’t make it to the cleanup or the ribbon cutting? You can still make a difference anytime you visit Fletcher Cove. Just use one of the baskets and help reduce plastic pollution—then share what you collect by tagging us on social media or scanning the QR code on the station sign.

Together, we can protect our environment and keep Solana Beach clean and beautiful for generations to come.
