SeaWeeders Garden Club Honored with “Greening Award”

The SeaWeeders Garden Club was recently recognized with the “Greening Award” at Assemblymember Tasha Boerner’s Annual Environmental Hero Awards, held on October 11. The awards honor individuals and organizations that make California’s 77th Assembly District a better place to live and work by protecting and enhancing the environment.
The SeaWeeders were nominated by Nicole Grucky, Senior Management Analyst, for their longtime partnership with the City of Solana Beach and the Climate & Resiliency Commission to expand pollinator habitats throughout the community. Their work continues a proud tradition of local “greening” projects that have contributed to the city’s beauty and environmental health for more than 70 years.
Formed from the legacy of the Solana Beach Civic & Historical Society and the Solana Beach Women’s Civic Club, the SeaWeeders have been beautifying Solana Beach since 1953. Their projects include landscaping along Highway 101 and at the Plaza, designing median landscapes on Lomas Santa Fe and Highland Drives, renovating and maintaining the Post Office garden, and developing community spaces like El Viento Pocket Park and the Coastal Rail Trail community garden.
Currently, the group is working with the Pollinator Friendly City Subcommittee to create a California native garden at City Hall, further supporting local biodiversity and pollinator populations.
The City proudly congratulates the SeaWeeders Garden Club for their continued dedication to environmental stewardship, community pride, and beautification in Solana Beach.
