Protect Active Nests This Breeding Season!

Spring is in the air. Flowers are blooming, bees are buzzing, and chicks in parks, forests, and gardens are snuggled up in their nests, waiting for their parents to return. When we think of nests we often think of trees. However, birds can build nests in shrubs and even vines in our gardens, and it is incredible how small some nests are! For example, Anna's Hummingbird nests are only 1" x 1.5", so they are easy to miss even when we are being careful (Learn more here).
When tending our gardens during nesting season, please be kind to all our neighbors and wait to do any pruning until nesting season is over, which typically goes from February to August. In fact, several Federal and California regulations protect the active nests of native and migratory birds from harm. Reach out to your gardener, HOA, landlord, or anyone else who might be trimming plants to let them know of nesting season and these regulations. We appreciate your commitment to helping our feathered friends!
