Solana Beach has 1.7 miles of beachfront divided into four main beach parks: Fletcher Cove, Tide Beach Park, Seascape Surf and Del Mar Shores. The city's Marine Safety Department is tasked with protecting citizenry on the beaches, in the ocean, and from the coastal bluffs. On Tuesday, June 17, Greg Uruburu, Captain of the Marine Safety Department, will speak at La Colonia Park Community Center, 715 Valley Avenue in Solana Beach, beginning at 6:00 PM. Captain Uruburu will give a brief history of the department's past accomplishments, its present responsibilities, and introduce some future programs. His talk includes graphics and plans for completion of the NEW Marine Safety Center, replacing the current 1940's building. The Marine Safety Department operates with seven full-time employees, supplemented by 55 seasonal employees, who prevent and respond to waterborne emergencies with emergency medical care throughout the year.  Learn about their acclaimed Junior Lifeguards Program. It has seen several young people become Seasonal Ocean Lifeguards, some achieving a full-time position on the year-around team.

This FREE event is sponsored by Solana Beach Community Connections (SBCC).  A Mix and Mingle reception with snacks will begin at 5:30 PM.  Please call 858-284-6619 or email info@SolanaBeachCC.org if you need a ride to this presentation.
