Plastic Free Solana Beach

Plastic Free SB

Did you know that the City of Solana Beach was the first city in San Diego County to ban single-use plastic bags? Solana Beach has been an early adopter of many environmental policies later implemented by other jurisdictions and even by the State of California.

What is the City doing to reduce plastic waste?

Solana Beach Municipal Code Sections 5.03 and 5.05 currently limits the use of single-use plastics in Solana Beach. These measures align with the City’s sustainability goals and protect our oceans.

What are the requirements for businesses? (PDF Here)

Food service businesses must...

  • Allow reusable drink cups
  • Only distribute single-use items upon request
  • Use fiber-based utensils (i.e. wood, bamboo)
  • Use compostable or recyclable containers
