The Solana Beach Community Senior Center is embracing a new image! We’ve changed our name to “The Mature Adult Center” and we can’t wait for you to join us!

The Mature Adult Center’s mission is to provide excellent resources, foster meaningful relationships, and fulfill opportunities for aging well. The center is open to everyone! We welcome participants from both within and outside Solana Beach and offer a variety of programs, activities and services, including classes, discussion groups, games, entertainment, and a delicious Wednesday lunch program.

The Mature Adult Center is open to everyone and is located at Solana Beach Presbyterian Church in Debin Hall (120 Stevens Ave, Solana Beach, CA 92075).

They have many programs, activities, and services available every week, both in-person and virtually through Zoom. For an update on upcoming programs, please call (858) 509-2587 or check out the Mature Adult Center’s current Encore Newsletter.

Here’s what’s coming up:

  • Feeling Fit Club (Mondays & Wednesdays at 8:30 AM): Get moving from home with this free, one-hour fitness class on Zoom. It’s a great way to stay active and feel energized!
  • Memory Café (2nd & 4th Thursdays from 10-11:30 AM): Memory Café is an enjoyable gathering for older adults to socialize, learn about keeping ones brains healthy, and have fun! 
  • Wednesday Program & Lunch (Wednesdays at 11:30 AM): Enjoy socializing, entertainment, and great food. 
  • Fun & Games Club (Wednesdays starting at 9:30 AM): Keep your mind sharp with a variety of fun games or get creative with knitting and crochet. Make friends while you play or create!
  • Get a Dose of Good News (2nd & 4th Wednesdays at 10:15 AM): Join a discussion group featuring only Good News to brighten and enrich your life.
  • Basic Tech Support (1st & 3rd Wednesdays from 1:15–2 PM): Are you baffled by apps, or need some basic computer guidance? Help is here!
  • Book Club (Group discussion 2nd Wednesday 1:15-2:30 PM): Love to read and share your thoughts about literature; this group is for you.
  • Ginny’s Sewing Club (1st & 3rd Wednesday’s at 10 AM): If you love to stich and chat this lovely group of women welcome talent.  
  • Silver Age Yoga (Fridays at 11:00 AM): This free chair-based yoga class is designed for seniors of all ability levels.
  • Biblical Exploration in the Holy Land (1st Wednesdays 10 AM): Enjoy travel and learning but in the comfort of a chair? This is an armchair travel video series featuring inspiring and educational archeological discoveries in the Holy Land.

MONTHLY ACTIVITIES

Wednesday Programs & Lunch

Wednesdays are BIG days at the Mature Adult Center, featuring classes, discussion groups, games, entertainment, and a delicious lunch. Enjoy a fun program and delicious meal with friends every Wednesday in Debin Hall. Programs/Entertainment start at 11:30 AM, and lunch starts at 12:15 PM.

Reservations are required one week in advance. Lunch is $9 per person or $10 for to-go meals. Special funds are available for anyone needing assistance. Contact the Mature Adult Center at (858) 509-2587 for more information.

  • October 01: Hymn Sing-A-Long with SBPC Assistant Worship Director, Derren Raser & Friends! Menu: Mediterranean Lentil Salad with Salmon. (RSVP by 9/24/2025)
  • October 08: Mission Focus: San Diego Rescue Mission’s Tea & Testimony. Menu: Chicken Vegetable Bake and Salad. (RSVP by 10/01/2025)

Fun and Games

Join fellow seniors for games like Bridge, Scrabble, Mahjong, and more. Knitters and crocheters are also welcome! Meet in Debin Hall on Wednesdays at 9:30 AM for a morning of fun before the Wednesday Program & Lunch. Games and crafting end at 11:20 AM, just in time for the 11:30 AM lunch program. Memory Cafe

Get connected, make friends, and keep your brain active! The Memory Café is an enjoyable gathering for older adults to socialize, learn about keeping their brains healthy, and have fun! The Memory Cafe meets on the 2nd & 4th Thursday of the month from 10:00 - 11:30 AM in Room 103. Parking is easiest in lot #3. There is no charge! Feeling Fit Club (Virtual)

Stay active from home on Mondays and Wednesdays, 8:30-9:30 AM, with this free virtual fitness class. Led by Sue Grant, this class is sponsored by San Diego County’s Aging and Independent Services. Silver Age (Chair) Yoga

Open to all on Fridays from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM in Debin Hall’s lower level, Room 16 (Parking in lot #2 is easiest). Instructors Elizabeth Young and Terri Rucker co-lead the Silver Age Yoga class, which is designed specifically for the needs of seniors of all ability levels. This “chair only” class means no mats and no getting on the floor. There is no fee, but donations are welcome for non-profit Silver Age Yoga.

Get a Dose of Good News

One of our wonderful Mature Adult Center couples, Frank and Toni Wong, will lead a discussion group featuring only Good News to brighten and enrich our lives. Mark your calendars for the 2nd & 4th Wednesdays, beginning September 10th, at 10:15 am in Room 15. Check out Good News Network at goodnewsnetwork.org or bring a good news item to share.

Basic Tech Support

Are you baffled by apps, or need some basic computer guidance? Christopher Slate, Library Technician with the Solana Beach Library, will be at the Mature Adult Center offering basic tech support on the 1st & 3rd Wednesdays of each month from 1:15-2 PM in Debin Hall. No appointment is necessary.

Book Club

The Book Club kicks off another season of great discussions. If you love reading, want to keep your mind sharp, and enjoy expanding your social circle, this group is for you! Join this great group for in-person discussions on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 1:15 PM, in Debin Hall Room 15. Ginny’s Sewing Club

If you love to sew, then come join this lovely group of gals who meet every 1st & 3rd Wednesday at 10:00 AM in Debin Hall’s lower level, Room 16, to stitch and chat. There are plenty of non-sewing tasks as well! They often bring lunch to enjoy some social time together after the sewing session. September Adventure Opportunity

Visit Balboa Park’s Botanical Garden

Join us as we immerse and surround ourselves in a lush oasis of diverse and exotic plants, in the newly rebuilt botanical lath building. You will have time to stroll the park and appreciate nature in its finest on this adventure. We’ll enjoy lunch in the park, too! DATE: Tuesday, September 30, 2025. COST: $15.00 – Includes transportation, NOTE: Lunch is no-host. DEPARTURE TIME: 11:00 AM / RETURNING: By 3:00 PM. ACTIVITY LEVEL: 7 (standing, walking, sitting, and uneven spaces). October Adventure Opportunities

San Diego Oasis Center–Rancho Bernardo location

On this trip we’ll have the opportunity to learn about Oasis unique educational programs (geared to mature adults), and see how the center is used as a hub for social activities and a route for tapping into new ideas, skills and passions.

Following our tour at the Oasis Center, we will head to the Rancho Bernardo Winery where we will delight in the beauty of the vineyard scenery, engage in a bit of boutique shopping, and enjoy an outdoor lunch. DATE: Thursday, Oct 2, 2025. COST: $10,00 - Includes transportation and tour. No-host lunch Rancho Bernardo Winery. DEPARTURE TIME: 10:00 AM / RETURNING: By 3:00 PM. Gleanings for the Hungry

You’re invited to join an enthusiastic group at Gleanings in Dinuba, CA (not far from Fresno) for an amazing week of fellowship, service, worship and fun! Spend a wonderful week supporting the efforts of YWAM’s Gleanings for the Hungry. There’s a lot to do and something for every skill and energy level. You might be packing dry soup mix, assist with office tasks, painting or making tied quilts. DATE: Sunday, Oct 19 thru Friday, Oct 24, 2025. COST: $75 dollars, includes 5 nights lodging, 3 meals a day while at Gleanings. ACTIVITY LEVEL: 4 (moderate-standing, walking, sitting, stairs). The Medicare Advantage area is changing on a daily basis and the upcoming Annual Enrollment Period is the best time for a “check-up”! Special Travel Opportunity

Spring Training Trip – Interest List forming!

Are you interested in going on a Spring Training Trip to see the San Diego Padres play in 2026? We’re gathering names for those interested as we begin to make plans for a trip to Arizona early next year. Our trip will include bus transportation, hotel accommodations, a few baseball games and loads of fellowship and fun as we cheer on the Padres.
