Date: Nov 19 , 2025

The Clean Energy Alliance (CEA) just launched their pilot PeakSmart Savers program! This program offers discounted electric generation rates to eligible residential customers enrolled in time-of-use rates and is an easy way to save on your electricity bill.

What is the PeakSmart Savers program?

  • PeakSmart Savers lets residential CEA customers access on-peak and off-peak electricity generation rates that are up to 30% lower than standard rates, year round.
  • In exchange, participants are asked to shift or reduce energy usage during “PeakSmart Days” — when demand on the electric grid is expected to be high.
  • CEA may call up to 18 Load Reduction Events per year during peak hours (4–9 p.m.). On these days, energy used during those hours has a “Load Reduction Adder” of $1.10 per kWh.
  • Customers receive text or email alerts the day before a PeakSmart Day is scheduled, so they can plan accordingly.
  • Bill Protection: Customers who sign up before December 31, 2025 will receive bill protection for the first 12-months! For those who join in 2025, CEA will compare your bill under PeakSmart Savers to what you would have paid without it — and if you paid more, CEA will refund the difference.

Sign up through the CEA website or by calling in to (833) 232-3110 on Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm.

FAQs

What are the benefits of joining PeakSmart

A PeakSmart participant can lower their energy costs, receive alerts about high-demand periods and help reduce strain on the electrical grid.

How will I know when a PeakSmart Day is happening?

CEA will notify participants via text and email alerts, and PeakSmart Days will also be posted on social media (Facebook, Instagram and X).

What happens during a PeakSmart Day?

If a PeakSmart Day is called, energy usage during the On-Peak period (4-9 p.m.) will incur a Load Reduction Adder of $1.10 per kWh. To save money, participants are encouraged to reduce their energy consumption during these times.

What is Bill Protection?

For the first 12 months, CEA will compare participants’ charges with what would have been paid outside the PeakSmart program. If the charges are higher, CEA will refund the difference via a check in the mail. Only customers who sign up for the program in 2025 will be eligible for Bill Protection.

How can I enroll in the program?

If you are an active CEA residential customer on rates TOU-DR, TOU-DR-1, TOU DR-2, EV-TOU, EV-TOU-2 and EV-TOU-5 you may enroll in the PeakSmart Savers Program by contacting CEA’s customer service line at (833) 232-3110 or visiting our website at TheCleanEnergyAlliance.org/PeakSmart. The account enrollment will be effective within two billing periods.

Can I leave the program at any time?

Yes, participants can unenroll, but to qualify for Bill Protection, they must complete the full 12-month period. Customers may request to be removed from the program by contacting CEA’s customer service at (833) 232-3110. If participants are also enrolled in the Solar Plus Connect or Battery Bonus Connect program, they are not eligible to unenroll.

How does PeakSmart impact customers with solar panels?

For NEM 1.0 or 2.0 customers, the Load Reduction Adder only applies to net consumption. Solar Impact (Solar Billing Plan) customers will see the Load Reduction Adder applied to imported energy only.
