The Solana Beach City Hall Gallery proudly presents Life Comes in Waves by Andrew Wright, on display now through June 25. A long-time North County surfer and self-taught artist, Andrew shares a deeply personal collection inspired by the beauty of surf breaks both locally and across the globe. His journey into painting began during his battle with leukemia, when he turned to art as a way to stay connected to the ocean he could no longer surf. The result is a stunning body of work that captures the power, peace, and rhythm of waves from some of the world’s most iconic surf spots.

Join us for a special artist reception on Saturday, May 31 from 4:00–6:00 PM. Come meet the artist, enjoy live music and refreshments, and view more than 40 original works celebrating the global surf experience.

About the Artist

Andrew Wright is a long-time San Diego North County surfer and a self-taught artist whose passion for the ocean is at the heart of every painting. His work reflects his personal experiences in some of the most pristine surf locations around the world. After being diagnosed with leukemia in 2019 and undergoing a bone marrow transplant, Andrew spent nearly two years out of the water. During that time, he began painting the waves he had surfed and dreamed of for over 50 years.

Before his art journey, Andrew built a successful 40+ year career in finance, including 26 years as a Director of Finance at Qualcomm. Since retiring, he has dedicated thousands of hours to developing his highly detailed, near-photographic painting style. His work has earned first place honors and multiple People’s Choice Awards at local galleries and is currently featured on The Circle Foundation of the Arts’ website.
