Temporary Public Art Program
It is hereby announced that two sculptures have been installed as part of the City's Temporary Public Art Program (Temp Program).

The process to acquire pieces for the Temp Program is extensive as well as interesting. The City Council must first approve sites within City limits that are appropriate for artwork. Once the sites are approved, the Public Arts Advisory Commission (PAAC) seeks out sculptures and artists willing to loan their work on a temporary basis. When a site, a sculpture, and an artist have all been coordinated, there is a 30-day public notice period to announce that a temporary piece of artwork will soon be installed at this site. In the meantime, the manner in which the piece will be installed is determined, an installer is hired, and the site prepared.
The two sites for the new sculptures are the corner of North Cedros & Cliff Street for "Topiary" by Christie Beniston, and the corner of Highland & Sun Valley Road, for "A Tree for All Seasons" by Pat Cranor.
This Temp Program will afford Solana Beach the opportunity to host public art without the expense or controversy of purchasing it. The sculptures will be changed-out after a year or two and the goal is to increase the Temp Program with about three additional sites throughout the City.
