Junior Lifeguards
The Junior Lifeguard Program is a comprehensive training program for youths from 9 to 17 years of age. The program is designed to develop and build self esteem, lifesaving and emergency skills. It also develops techniques, physical fitness, respect and appreciation of the ocean environment. The program teaches general water safety through a variety of techniques including games, competitions, lectures, surfing, body-boarding, swimming, and skin-diving. There are appearances by special guests, and opportunities to train with lifeguard emergency equipment.
The Junior Lifeguard Administrative Office is located at the Solana Beach Marine Safety Headquarters at Fletcher Cove. The Junior Lifeguard training area is located at Seascape Surf.

Ocean Safety Slide Show
As part of its public education component, the Department of Marine Safety offers a PowerPoint Beach Safety Presentation which is available for presentations at schools and meetings of youth educational organizations. The slide show, which is presented by a uniformed member of the Department of Marine Safety, contains valuable information about the ocean environment, personal safety, and the Department of Marine Safety.
